Boxing: Ward for qualifier

Joe Ward

Boxing: All depends on final Olympic qualifier in Trabzon, Turkey, starting on April 13.
Likely qualifiers: Joe Ward who beat Beijing medal winner Kenneth Egan 29-10 for the light heavyweight title at the National Championships.  Ward, aged 19, is the European champion and already world class.
Light-flyweight Paddy Barnes and light-welterweight Ross Hickey look a good bets  for qualification.
Featherweight Michael McDonagh from Tallaght,  who beat David Oliver Joyce for the national title and welterweight Adam Nolan beat Olympian John Joe Joyce in his final but may lack experience.
Outside bets: super-heavyweight Con Sheehan, heavyweight Tommy McCarthy.
Darren O'Neill, John Joe Nevin and Michael Conlon qualified for the London Olympics  at the Baku World Championships last year.
Ireland is targeting seven Olympic berths in Trabzon. Katie Taylor and the women's squad will aim for three more Olympic places at the AIBA Women's World Championships in China in May. The draw in both tournaments will be critical.
* Paddy Barnes, Michael McDonagh, Ross Hickey, Adam Nolan, Joe Ward, Tommy McCarthy and Con Sheehan will travel to the tournament in Trabzon, Turkey from 13-22 April.
