Irish at Sochi - Timetable/Results

Thursday 6 February - Seamus O’Connor (snowboarding) – slopestyle qualification
Saturday 8 February - Seamus O’Connor (snowboarding) – slopestyle SF, 9th, 70.25 pts.
Tuesday 11 February - Seamus O’Connor (snowboarding) – half pipe qualification, Ht 1, 8th, ( 1st run 66.25, 2nd run 71.50); SF54.00 dnq for final; 9th overall.
Florence Bell
Friday 14 February - Sean Greenwood (skeleton) – Run 1,  57.99 secs; run 2, 65.11 secs (crashed); total 2:03.10; 27th (last).  Jan Rossiter (cross-country skiing) – men's 15km classic, 82nd, 48 mins 46.6 secs.
Tuesday 18 February - Florence Bell (Alpine skiing) – women's giant slalom, rd 1, dnf (crashed)
Wednesday 19 February - Conor Lyne (Alpine skiing) – men's giant slalom, rd 1, dnf (fall)
Friday 21 February - Florence Bell (Alpine skiing) – women's slalom, rd 1, 55th, rd 2, dnf.
Saturday 22 February - Conor Lyne (Alpine skiing) – men's slalom, 16.45.

PS: Bookies had Seamus O'Connor at 200/1 for the half pipe and  Sean Greenwood at 175/1 for the skeleton. No other Irish feature.



Harry Boland, 1948 Olympian, RIP


Harry Boland,  a member of the Irish basketball  team at the 1948 Olympics,  died on 18 December 2013.
Apart from making the Olympic team, Boland was an outstanding player throughout the 1940s and 1950s. As an administrator, he served as treasurer of UCD Basketball Club for more than 50 years after first taking up the position in the mid-1940s.  He was president of Basketball Ireland from 1965 to 1968.
